SMT2 FAQ

WILL THE USE OF SMT2 VOID WARRANTIES?

No! SMT2 does NOT treat the oil or fluid into which it is introduced. SMT2 treats ferrous (Fe) metals ONLY. It does NOT affect, in a positive or negative way, ANY type of seal material. SMT2 meets or exceeds all OEM lubrication standards and does NOT affect warranties because it does NOT affect the pH, or blend package of any fluid into which it is introduced. SMT2 is a pure concentrate metal treatment only.

WHAT DOES SMT2 DO FOR THE EQUIPMENT THAT IS TREATED?

SMT2 significantly reduces friction, thereby providing:
  • More power to motorized equipment (increased rpm or same rpm at improved energy efficiency).
  • Cooler operation in all engines, transmissions, gear boxes, sliding devices, and bearing assemblies.
  • Longer equipment life (documented equipment life savings).
  • Significantly longer service cycles.
  • Protection against high wear debris buildup and extreme environments.

SMT2 only affects ferrous (Fe) metal parts; therefore, it can be safely used in hydraulic systems, HVAC pumps, conveyor systems, automatic transmissions, gear boxes, transfer cases, crankcases, differentials, coolants, fuel, and chain cases – virtually any friction environment.

DOES SMT2 WEAR OUT?

No! SMT2 does not wear out. However, due to physics, it must be replaced each time the oil, lubricant, or grease is replaced. There are a few exceptions, such as automobile engines, where the oil is changed every 3,000 miles. When the oil in an automobile is changed every 3,000 miles, SMT2 should be added every other oil change.

DOES SMT2 REPLACE EXISTING OIL OR GREASE VOLUME?

No! Unlike additives, SMT2 does not add volume to the lubricant because SMT2 is a metal treatment that micro- scopically permeates ferrous metals on the surface and leaches through the porosity of the metal itself. Most anti-friction additives replace a portion of the oil thereby altering the delicate formulation of the oil or lubricant. When a petroleum based oil product replaces the oil with which the engine is designed to operate, the additive package pH and suspension agent of the oil may be altered. When the pH is wrong, the “additive package” is out of balance and can cause acidic buildup and corrosiveness. SMT2 does not change any of this.

WHAT IS THE VISCOSITY OF SMT2?

SMT2 is a highly viscous product. SMT2 has a SG/50°C of between 1.3 (lower spec) and 1.37 (upper spec), and it has an Asus/210°F between 65 (lower spec) and 90 (upper spec).

However, the viscosity of SMT2 has no affect on the overall viscosity of the oil or lubricant into which SMT2 is mixed. Unlike “additives” that mix with and alter the characteristics of the oil or lubricant, SMT2 is absorbed into the metal itself and has no affect on the viscosity, pH, or additive package of the oil or lubricant. SMT2 is not an additive, and it actually disappears from the oil or lubricant entirely when it is absorbed into the metal.

WHAT IS THE FLASH POINT OF SMT2?

SMT2 does not have a flash point.

AT WHAT POINT DOES SMT2 BREAK DOWN UNDER HEAT?

SMT2 does not break down under heat. SMT2 is not a lubricant or additive that is affected by heat. SMT2 is a metal treatment that is absorbed into the metal and uses oil, lubricant, or grease only to carry it to the metal. In one application, SMT2 is being used on a coal dryer at temperatures of 1211°F.
